February 15, 2024

This Weekend in Sports previews the biggest games and events for the coming weekend.

The Daytona 500 returns, the NBA showcases its greatest talent during All-Star Weekend, Ohio State tries to topple mighty Purdue and the UFC featherweight title is up for grabs during this weekend in sports. The NBA All-Star bets listed here are currently available on Tipico Sportsbook — odds are current as of this writing.

Daytona 500, 2:30 p.m. ET Sunday

Tipico odds: Denny Hamlin +1000, Kyle Busch +1100, Brad Keselowski +1100, Ryan Blaney +1100, Joey Logano +1200

Hamlin has won the race three times (2016, 2019, 2020) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (+3000) is the defending champion. Weather could be a factor, with a chance of rain forecast for Sunday.

NBA All-Star Weekend

Three-Point Challenge Shootout

Tipico odds: Stephen Curry -260, Sabrina Ionescu +200

Golden State Warriors star Curry is the all-time leader in three-pointers and has won the All-Star Three-Point Contest in 2018 and 2021. The New York Liberty’s Ionescu is the NCAA all-time leader in career triple-doubles and the only NCAA Division I basketball player to record 2,000 points, 1,000 assists, and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

Slam Dunk Contest

Tipico odds: Mac McClung -190, Jaylen Brown +440, Jacob Toppin +550, Jaime Jaquez Jr +650

McClung, a guard for the Osceola Magic in the G League, defends his 2023 title against a group that includes the brother of 2022 champion Obi Toppin. Jaquez, a Miami Heat rookie and former UCLA star, won a dunk contest in 2019 against Philadelphia 76ers forward Kenyon Martin Jr. and Atlanta Falcons star wide receiver Drake London.

Three-Point Contest

Tipico odds: Damian Lillard +500, Malik Beasley +550, Tyrese Haliburton +550, Karl Anthony Towns +600, Jalen Brunson +600, Lauri Markkanen +650, Trae Young +650, Donovan Mitchell +700

The Bucks’ Lillard won it last year, and Towns won it in 2022. Beasley currently has the highest 3-point shooting percentage of the field, hitting 44.9 percent this season. This should be a good one.

Tipico odds: Giannis Antetokounmpo +600, Lebron James +700, Stephen Curry +850, Jayson Tatum +900, Kevin Durant +1000, Damian Lillard +1000, Anthony Edwards +1000

James has won the award three times (2018, 2008, 2006) and the last three winners were Tatum, Curry and Antetokounmpo.

NCAA Basketball

No. 4 Marquette at No. 1 Connecticut, 3 p.m. ET Saturday

The top-ranked Huskies (22-2 overall, 12-1 Big East) look like legitimate contenders to repeat as national champions. Center Donovan Clingan is averaging 12.1 points, 2.3 blocks and 6.4 rebounds per game and Cam Spencer, Tristen Newton and Alex Karaban are each averaging about 15 ppg.

AP preseason All-American Tyler Kolek has helped lead the Golden Eagles to seven wins over their past eight games and is averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 assists per game.

No. 2 Purdue at Ohio State, 1 p.m. ET Sunday

If UConn isn’t the favorite right now to take the title, it has to be Purdue. Last year’s National Player of the Year, 7-4 Zach Edey, leads the Boilermakers with 23.3 ppg on 62 percent shooting and is also grabbing 11.7 rebounds per game. Bruce Thornton leads the Buckeyes with 15.8 ppg and 4.2 apg.

The Genesis Invitational, Thursday-Sunday

Tipico odds: Scottie Scheffler +525, Rory McIlroy +950, Viktor Hovland +1400

Tiger Woods (+13400) plays his first PGA tournament since withdrawing from last year’s Masters and then undergoing leg surgery. He has never won this event – taking place at the Riviera Country Club in LA – and could have difficulty making the cut of 50 in the 70-player field.

Jon Rahm is the defending champion. Scheffler has finished in the top five twice in his past four tournaments.

UFC 298

Alex Volkanovski (-125) battles Ilia Topuria (+105) for the UFC featherweight title. Read all about the match and other key undercard matchups here.
