This Weekend in Sports previews the biggest games and events for the coming weekend.

This weekend features four (!) top 10 college hoops contests, along with a mix of NBA, UFC, PGA, and all-star game festivities in two leagues.

NCAA Men’s Basketball

No. 4 Houston at No. 8 Kansas, 4 p.m. ET Saturday

After replacing Elmarko Jackson as a starter at forward, Johnny Furphy has averaged 14.5 ppg and has made nearly 50 percent of his 3-point attempts for the Jayhawks. They host a Houston team that’s one of the best defensive squads in recent years, though the Cougars haven’t been dynamite on the road thus far.

No. 7 Duke at No. 3 North Carolina, 6:30 p.m. ET Saturday

The Blue Devils and Tar Heels meet for the 192nd time in their storied rivalry. The Tar Heels haven’t lost since Dec. 16 and are the best defensive team in the ACC, though they’re coming off an upset loss to Georgia Tech on the road.

No. 5 Tennessee at No. 10 Kentucky, 8:30 p.m. Saturday

Antonio Reeves is UK’s top scorer at 19.5 ppg and Tre Mitchell adds 13 ppg and 7.8 rpg. Dalton Knecht leads the Vols with 20.1 ppg and Jonas Aidoo is averaging 11.6 ppg and 7.4 rpg. Both of these teams are in the mix to win the SEC this season.

No. 2 Purdue at No. 6 Wisconsin, 1 p.m. ET Sunday

7-foot-4, 300-pound Wooden Award winner Zach Edey leads the Boilermakers with 23.4 ppg and 11.6 rpg this season and is sporting a 63.5 percent field goal percentage. AJ Storr is averaging nearly 16 ppg for the Badgers. This is one of the best games on the Big Ten calendar this season.

Los Angeles Lakers at New York Knicks, 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday

Jalen Brunson is averaging nearly 27 points per game and led New York to eight straight victories and third place in the Eastern Conference overall standings despite Julian Randle’s recent injury. The Lakers are hovering around .500, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis averaging nearly 25 ppg.

Cleveland Cavaliers at San Antonio Spurs, 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday

Donovan Mitchell is averaging more than 28 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game as the Cavs are among the top four teams in the East. The Spurs have the worst record in the Western Conference despite a solid season from No. 1 draft pick Victor Wembanyama, who is averaging 20.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Portland Trail Blazers at Denver Nuggets, 9 p.m. ET Friday and 8:30 p.m. ET Sunday

The defending champion Nuggets are chugging along, led by Nikola Jokic (26.3 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 9.0 apg), Jamal Murray (21.2 ppg, 6.4 apg), and Michael Porter Jr. (15.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg). The Blazers are definitely missing former star Damien Lillard and are headed toward lottery land.

Premier League

Arsenal vs Liverpool, 11:30 a.m. ET Sunday

The Gunners have beaten the Reds only once in nearly four years but can catch up to them in the table with a victory Sunday. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is tied for the league lead in goals with 14.

Tipico bettors have put 100 percent of current bets on the Over at 2.5 goals.

UFC Fight Night

Roman Dolidze vs Nassourdine Imavov, Saturday

Tipico odds: Imavov -160, Dolidze +140; Over 2.5 rounds -160, Under +125

The 8th-ranked middleweight Dolidze’s last match was a unanimous decision defeat to Marvin Vettori after having won three straight matches. Imavov is ranked 11th and lost earlier this season.

Tipico bettors have bet 57 percent of the handle on Imavov to win.

2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Thursday-Sunday

Tipico odds: Rory McIlroy +850, Scottie Scheffler +850, Viktor Hovland +1200

The Signature Event includes 49 of the top 50 players in the FedEx Cup standings from last season, all vying for the $3.6 million winner’s prize. Viktor Hovland finished tied for 13th at this event last year. Rory McIlroy is making his 2024 PGA Tour debut after winning the Dubai Desert Classic.

Tipico bettors are putting 55 percent of the handle on Scheffler to finish in the top 20.

All-Star Weekend, Thursday-Saturday

This year the NHL is featuring four teams again, but this year NHL stars — Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Jack Hughes and his brother Quinn Hughes — will be picking the teams as captains. The All-Star draft will be Thursday, 6 p.m., the skills competition will be Friday, 7 p.m., and the game itself will be Saturday, 3 p.m.

Pro Bowl Games, Thursday 7 p.m. ET, Sunday 3 p.m. ET

This is the second year the NFL has replaced the traditional Pro Bowl game with a series of competitions and a flag football game. But most NFL fans are just looking forward to the Super Bowl.

Tipico Sportsbook bettors thus far have put 82 percent of the moneyline handle on the Chiefs to win, and 34 percent on 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey for Anytime Touchdown. The largest bet so far has been $1,960.50 on the Chiefs at +105.
